Munnar


The pictures below were taken by the author of this blog in and around Munnar. The center of the town is drab and gritty, but the surroundings are charming. Tea grows in abundance around Munnar.

As I wrote above, the center of town is quite drab. The church in the background is probably Syrian Orthodox. Whether or not it is of that denomination, there are many churches in Kerala, many of which are architecturally unusual to this American's eye.


The word 'Hotel' is used in India to describe a restaurant.


This fellow made the best chai in India. He has a roadside stand about a half hour out of town.


The road to and from Munnar is very steep and there are a few scenic waterfalls along the way. This woman had a roadside coconut stand by a waterfall. Delicious.
